Kolkata: A pan North East Car Rally, covering all capital cities of North-Eastern states, is being organised by the Eastern Command, Indian Army to celebrate ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’. The Car Rally, named “’Purvottar Bharat Parikrama’, will start from Fort Williams, Kolkata, and drive through all States of North East India.
The initiative aims to reach out to youth, freedom fighters, gallantry award winners, and many more to share their experiences and to develop a meaningful connection for the inclusive development of India. The rally was flagged off by Lt Gen Rana Pratap Kalita, GOC-in-C Eastern Command on Wednesday.
Around 38 members, and 10 vehicles, are taking part in the rally and will cover approximately 5000km over 20 days across the North-Eastern states. The rally aims to augment bonhomie with the local populace and highlight the cultural heritage of North East India to the world. The car rally #PBP promises a positive outcome for the masses by channelizing the thought process towards the spirit of independent India, National Integration, and building an inclusive mindset in local youth.
As part of the ‘Parikrama’ several events have been planned which include paying homage to freedom fighters and fallen heroes, lectures on ways to join the Indian Army, motivational lectures by the gallantry award recipients, medical camps in far-flung areas and outreach program for youth, school children, survivors of the fallen heroes, Ex-Servicemen and Veer Naris.
The event as part of the national project of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ is being conducted in collaboration with the North East council (NEC) under the Department of North Eastern Region (DoNER), said a press note from the PRO (Defence), Kohima & Imphal.
