Lucknow: A special MP-MLA court on Saturday sentenced former president of Uttar Pradesh unit of Congress Ajay Kumar Lallu to one year imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000 in a four-year-old case in a defamation case, prosecution sources said here.
Prosecution sources said that in November 2019, the then cabinet minister Shrikant Sharma had filed a complaint against the Congress leader for defamation. After hearing the arguments of both the sides the MP MLA court of Judge Ambrish Kumar Srivastava sentenced Lallu to one year imprisonment in the defamation case.
It may be noted that Lallu had accused Shrikant Sharma of benefiting the mafias and being involved in the Provident Fund (PF) scam. Sharma had asked the then Congress state president to apologize, failing to which he filed a defamation case against Lallu.
