Tripura: BJP calls legislative party meeting to select CM, swearing-in on Mar 8

The state administration has arranged two pairs of trains to ferry people from the North and Southern parts of Tripura along with the hiring of a large number of buses and other vehicles to make the event successful, officials said.

Secretariat sources said besides Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP national president J P Nadda and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states of the country, an assembly of about 60,000 people – at least 1000 from each constituency has been targeted in the swearing-in programme.

According to the schedule, Prime Minister would arrive here from New Delhi along with others at 11 AM and before they reach, the programme would be started where the Chief Minister and 11 other members of his upcoming cabinet would take the oath from Governor Satyadev Narnian Arya.

However, BJP has convened the legislative party meeting at 5 PM on Monday to select the leader of the government where Chief Minister of the outgoing cabinet Dr Manik Saha and Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Pratima Bhoumik, become the aspirant although the party had announced Dr Saha as CM candidate before the election.

The Assam Chief Minister and NEDA Chairman Himanta Biswa Sarma had already held a meeting with the party leaders here and a few legislators over the selection of the Chief Minister and the cabinet members and finalized the list with Amit Shah and cleared the nod from the party president.

Meanwhile, there has been a demand to include at least one minister from each district, representatives of all major tribes, SC, and experienced MLAs in the cabinet, which was not

followed in the last government, and the party suffered badly in the election.
