Arms dealers, militants nabbed; 14 acres poppy plantation destroyed in Manipur

Imphal: Five persons including two militants, two women arms dealers were nabbed on Thursday in three separate incidents, Manipur Police and Assam Rifles official said on Friday.

Manipur Police and Assam Rifles personnel nabbed two alleged women arms dealers from Heirok Part-II Mayai Leikai, Thoubal district . One 9 mm pistol (Glock) was also recovered from their possession.

The apprehended women along with the recovered items, were handed over to Heirok Police Station for further investigation.

In another incident Manipur Police and Assam Rifles personnel nabbed two alleged militants from Sekmaijin Thongam Makha Leikai, Imphal West district .

The apprehended individual alongwith the recovered items were handed over to Heingang Police Station for further investigation.

In yet another incident Manipur Police nabbed one Muhammad Ebungo with arms.

The person has been identified as Md. Ebungo alias SK (25 years) son of Late. Md. Abdullah of Kairang Chingya Leikai, Imphal East district.

One .32 Pistol (‘Made in Japan’) along with two live rounds in the magazine were found from him. 

On Friday, in continuation of the mass poppy destruction drive conducted by the combined team of District Police Kangpokpi, MPTC, NAB, 6 IRB,   5 IRB, and Forest department destroyed  15 acres of the illegal poppy plantation at Natjang & Molkon hill range under the jurisdiction of Saikul Police Station, the press note added.
