Lucknow: Samajwadi Party (SP) MLAs on Thursday created uproar and raised slogans in the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly over caste based house census leading to the adjournment of the house for 35 minutes.

During question hour SP member Sangram Singh raised the sought to know from the government that when the caste based census was conducted last time and whether it will be conducted the same before the Lok Sabha elections.

Replying to the question on behalf of the government, Agriculture Minister Surya Pratap Shahi said that as per the Constitutional provision the census is conducted by the Centre and it is not the work of the state government.

In a supplementary question Sangram Singh citing a report said that there is a huge gap of inequality as 1 per cent people have 40.5 per cent resources and 50 per cent people are making their livelihood from 3 per cent resources. He said that caste based census is being carried out in Bihar.

Replying to this, Shahi said that UP has come a long way. “We cannot take UP in reverse gear. We don’t want to take it to Bihar, where there is anarchy, corruption and nepotism. We want to make UP the best state in the country following the motto of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikash, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas,” he said.
