Manipur CM inaugurates private sports complex – Chumthang Shannapung

Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh inaugurated Chumthang Shannapung, a multi-sports complex, developed by the Soraisam Sports Infra Pvt. Ltd.  at Langthabal Lep Makha Leikai, on Sunday and said the government cannot work alone without the support of the general public.

Speaking as the Chief Guest of the inaugural function, N. Biren Singh said that the government alone cannot bring change and that everyone should shoulder their responsibilities to ensure growth and development in the state.

Biren Singh also reiterated his desire to see Manipur become like Singapore, where it is self-sustaining, neat, and clean, and where the public can enjoy a quality life.

The COVID pandemic had hampered more than two and a half years during the last term of the government, the Chief Minister said, adding that nevertheless, today we have started inaugurating and dedicating projects taken up during the previous term.

He also highlighted recent projects, such as the Manipur Olympian Park, the Polo Statue at the Ibudhou Marjing Complex, and the Sangai Ethnic Park, and stated that the development and change seen in Manipur today are the result of people’s support.

Further stating that the Sangai Ethnic Park, Moirang Khunou, is being developed to host the G-20 delegates, the Chief Minister said that around 150 participants, including around 50 foreign delegates, will be coming to the state. He said the state will host a business summit as part of the G-20 summit on February 17, which would be highly beneficial for the state.

The Meiteis, being the largest community in the state, have played a major role in the past, the Chief Minister said, further stressing the need for the community to continue playing a major role in fostering unity among the communities.

Biren Singh also highlighted the need to develop/set up more sports academies in the state and said an excellent training centre will be set up at Olympian Park. He also stated that the government will assist Boxer L. Saraita’s boxing academy and that a training centre in the neighbourhood of weightlifter Mirabai is in the works.

The government is also trying to develop at least seven natural grass football grounds, he said.

Astroturf grounds have also been developed in seven hill districts, said the Chief Minister, adding that the government is bringing equal development to both the hills and the valley.

Further speaking on the ills of deforestation and the need to groom forest covers, the Chief Minister said that the government has already announced a monetary award for those who can identify anyone who ignites wildfires.

Biren Singh also spoke strongly on the impact of adulterated liquor, illegal drugs, and corruption and the need to eradicate these ills from society. 

He also emphasised the advantages of various schemes, such as those of Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang, Go to Hills, and others.

The formal inaugural function was also attended by Manipur Planning Authority Deputy Chairman S. Rajen Singh, Tourism Corporation of Manipur Ltd. Chairperson Karam Shyam, Manipur Electronics Development Corporation Chairperson Sapam Kunjakeswar Singh, Wangkhei MLA Th. Arun, MLA Naoriya Pakhanglakpa S. Kebi Devi, MLA Saikul Kimneo Hanshing, boxer L. Sarita, and footballer Bembem, among others.
