Arunachal: Mishra presents Guv’s gold & silver medals to meritorious soldiers of AR

Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Governor Brig (Retd) Dr BD Mishra on Wednesday presented the Governor’s Gold and Silver Medals to the Assam Rifles personnel in a ceremony held at the Raj Bhavan here.

While complimenting the award-winning soldiers for their selfless duty, professionalism and gallant action in service of the nation, the Governor said the Assam Rifles personnel, because of their exemplary sense of duty, have made the Assam Rifles “the object of praise for every citizen of the North East India”. 

“The dedication and contribution that the Assam Rifles has given to the North Eastern region in everything is highly commendable and appreciated,” the Governor added.

25 Assam Rifles Sector Commander, Brigadier Swaran Singh while thanking the Governor and congratulating the award winners, said the Assam Rifles is the oldest paramilitary force, raised under the name Cachar Levy in 1835.

In the Northeastern states, the Assam Rifles is the specialized force that carries out counter-insurgency operations and border guarding along the Indo-Myanmar border in the most inhospitable and treacherous terrains and adverse weather conditions.

The Force with its rich history extending over 187 years speaks volumes of its glorious achievements, unflinching loyalty and supreme sacrifice in the true tradition of the Indian Army, he said.

In all, 17 personnel were conferred medals including seven gold and 10 silvers. Among others’ the Governor’s better half Neelam Misra, Air Commodore (Retd) RD Mosabi, BRO’s Project Arunank Chief Engineer Brig Anirudh S Konwar, officers, JCOs and other ranks were present in the award function.
