Bengaluru: Shreyas Gopal’s fifth ton helped Karnataka take a mammoth 358-run lead to tighten screws on Uttarakhand in the Ranji Trophy quarter final against at Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Wednesday.

Resuming overnight score of 123/0, Karnataka added 351 runs on Day 2. Openers – Mayank Agarwal (83) and Ravikumar Samarth (82), missed on centuries, but Shreyas batted with patience to get his century.

He built a 108-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Manish Pandey who scored 39 before he was caught by Aditya Tare behind the stumps off Mayank Mishra. Surprisingly, Shreyas played an aggressive knock compared to Pandey who usually scores at a good pace.

After tea, Shreyas was severe on Uttarakhand bowlers and soon reached his century with a drive off left-arm spinner Mishra of the last ball of the day.
Earlier, Mayank and Samarth were caught in the slips after scoring quick runs, mixed with few instances of lapse in concentration.

Devdutt Padikkal (69) and Nikin Jose (62) stitched 118 runs for the third wicket. Jose was on a merrier trip as he smacked 12 glorious boundaries.
The visitors put on a shabby fielding show as Tare missed a stumping chance off Padikkal when he was batting on 39, and dropped Pandey twice and once Shreyas batting on 68.
