Agartala: Tripura Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma holding Panchayat portfolio on Friday launched internet connectivity at 108 Gram Panchayats and Village Councils from Civil Secretariat to enable the rural population to get the benefit of information communication technology.
Dev Varma said following the digital India movement of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the telecommunications network has been spread up to the remotest corner of the state like the rest of the country. Mobile and internet services reached almost every house due to the aggressive campaign for digital movement.
“People of the rural areas have been facing constraints to avail online service facilities in the villages. Besides constructing Panchayat buildings, we have provided funds for the installation of computers, furniture, and other infrastructure and amenities in the panchayat offices. In the first phase, funding was made for 44 panchayats for building construction, and 15 have already been completed and inaugurated now,” Dev Varma stated.
He said for the initial phase, the government has made the infrastructure development work and internet service providing initiatives among the aspirational blocks, and gradually all the panchayats across the state would be connected to the internet network so that the people residing in the villages can harness the facilities, Dev Varma added.
