Imphal: Manipur Governor La.Ganesan welcomed FIH Odisha Hockey Men’s World Cup Trophy 2023, here on Wednesday at the Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium The Governor also opened the trophy to the public in the ceremony.
The Governor said the nation is proud as India is hosting the 15th Hockey Men’s World Cup, 2023 and it is to be played in Odisha in January next year. He said, India was and still is a leading country in hockey.
The relentless efforts made by Hockey India to ameliorate the standard are quite commendable and praiseworthy, he said. Manipur Hockey is also making all possible efforts to promote the game by improving infrastructure, introducing special training courses, etc, he said.
He said that the North East is slowly inching up in the field of sports and Manipur is leading the charge.
Manipur has already produced seven Olympians in Hockey. La. Ganesan further said that with the fresh initiative taken up by the central government, the future will be bright for our sportspersons.
Youth Affairs & Sports department should make all possible efforts to provide better infrastructure and training to help the players.
