Eight Rohingya migrants arrested in Agartala

The migrants included three women and three children who were on their way to Delhi.

Agartala: Based on inputs from military intelligence, Tripura Police on Saturday arrested eight illegal Rohingya migrants in Agartala Railway Station. 

The migrants included three women and three children who were on their way to Delhi.

Police said military intelligence Eastern Command shared the information regarding the presence of Rohingya in the city in the morning with the special branch based on which police detained them from the station. A case has been registered against them under Indian Passport Act and Foreigners Act.

The detainees were identified as Md Yousuf (23), his wife Minara (30), Sayad Nur (25) his wife Sawkat Ara (21) and Jannat Ara (20) and three minor children Saidul Amin (10), Riyajul Jannat (7) and Khairul Amin (3).

Police said that the Rohingyas had entered illegally from Bangladesh in Tripura with the help of a local agent and were trying to leave the state. 

However, details of their entry and their destination have not yet been ascertained, police added.
