Magrey appointed CJ of J&K, Ladakh

Justice Magrey will hold the post from the date he assumes charge of his office, read an order issued by the Additional Secretary to the Indian government.

Srinagar: The President on Tuesday appointed Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey as the Chief Justice of the Court of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.

The Supreme Court collegium had recommended his elevation on September 28.

Justice Magrey will hold the post from the date he assumes charge of his office, read an order issued by the Additional Secretary to the Indian government.

According to a separate order, incumbent Jammu and Kashmir Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal has been transferred as Chief Justice of the High Court of Rajasthan.

Justice Magrey was born on December 8, 1960 in village Wattoo in Kulgam district of Kashmir. He received school education in his village and did his Graduation and LL.B from the University of Kashmir.

He enrolled as advocate in 1984 and started practicing law in district courts, including revenue courts and tribunals and the High Court.

He was appointed a judge of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court in March 2013.
