Yerevan: The United States condemns the deadly attacks of Azerbaijan against Armenia, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Sunday.
The United States as a co-chair of the OSCE Minsk group has stated multiple times that there is no military solution to the conflict between Yerevan and Baku, Pelosi said, adding that she condemns Azerbaijan’s deadly attacks against Armenia on behalf of the US Congress.
The US House Speaker also stated that Washington is concerned with guaranteeing Armenia’s democratic development, its sovereignty and territorial integrity, and is expressing readiness to support Armenia.
According to US Congressman Frank Pallone, the US is aware of Armenia’s security alliance with Russia, however the country is concerned about Armenia’s security and wants to assist Yerevan in this matter.
Tensions flared up on the Armenia-Azerbaijani border in the early hours of Tuesday in an area unrelated to the disputed Nagorno-Karabakh region. Azerbaijan said it started an offensive responding to an Armenian “provocation.” Yerevan and Baku agreed on a ceasefire on Tuesday morning after the Russian mediation.
