Agartala: BJP National president J P Nadda arrived here this morning on a two-day Tripura visit to strengthen the party and re-organize different wings of the party as part of the dry-run for upcoming assembly elections slated for early next year.

Immediately after arrival, he attended the Prime Minister’s Maan Ki Baat program along with the party leaders followed by an initial discussion with the newly appointed BJP state president Rajib Bhattacharjee and Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha.

He was welcomed by both Bhattacharjee and Saha at MBB airport along with Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma and other party leaders.

Nadda is scheduled to hold a meeting with the leaders of BJP’s partner in the government IPFT at night before meeting with the core committee members of the state committee.

The BJP chief would meet separately with BJP office bearers and state Morcha presidents, tribal leaders including MLAs and Members of the Development Council, BJP MLAs, and Ministers tonight.

He will address a mega rally on Monday at Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District (ADC) headquarters at Khumlung challenging royal scion Pradyot Kishore Debbarman whose party TIPRA Motha ruled ADC.

The BJP President Rajib Bhattacharjee told the media that BJP believes in inclusive politics for the development of the state following the pathway demarcated by the Prime Minister. The first public rally of Nadda ahead of the upcoming crucial assembly election in Khumlung is believed to be an open challenge to Pradyot.

“The Nadda’s rally will be historic and a huge turn out of tribal. We want to pass a message to TIPRA that the way they have been torturing other party workers mostly BJP, is not acceptable. We shall show them the acceptability of BJP among tribals,” Bhattacharjee.

He alleged that TIPRA wants to break the unity by resorting to violence and attacks in the name of Thansa (unity) but, BJP would not allow this practice to continue in the state.

The turnout of tribals in the rally would spread the message that BJP has no alternative in Tripura BJP’s northeast strategist and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and the leaders of BJP including party’s national Vice President Jay Panda, organizational in-charge of northeast Phanindra Nath Sarma, Tripura Chief Minister Dr Saha, and Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Dev Varma were also part of the meeting last week.

The RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat also visited the state for two days and took stock of the situation and met Pradyot’s mother Bibhu Kumari Devi at the palace. However, Nadda’s visit to Tripura is considered the beginning of the poll campaign of the BJP in the state ahead of about five months before the schedule.
