New Delhi: Former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh has moved to the Supreme Court seeking a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) over the allegations of corruptions and malpractice levelled by him against the Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh.

Singh was transferred by the Maharashtra government over a bomb scare at industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s residence in Mumbai and the arrest of former police officer Sachin Vaze.

The former Mumbai Police chief, in a letter to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, had alleged that Deshmukh had been holding meetings at his residence since February with Vaze and Assistant Police Commissioner Sanjay Patil bypassing the seniority rules and had also asked them to collect Rs 100 crore every month.

The petition filed by Singh through Advocate Abhinay stated, “The petitioner has invoked writ jurisdiction of this Hon’ble Court to seek unbiased, uninfluenced, impartial and fair investigation in the corrupt malpractices of Shri Anil Deshmukh, the Hon’ble Home Minister of Government of Maharashtra, before the evidences are destroyed.”

“…Shri Anil Deshmukh in abuse of the official position of the Home Minister, whether in calling and directly instructing the police officers of lower rank as Shri Vaze or Shri Patil for his malicious intent of extorting money from establishments across Mumbai and other sources …cannot be countenanced or justified in any democartic state,” the petition said as reported by Live Law.

Singh in his petition stated that the decision to transfer him from the post was a “political move with oblique purposes and sinister motives”.

The petitioner also pointed out that his transfer was a violation of Service Cadre Rules which states that the transfer of a person from a sensitive tenure post requires serious considerations and good reasons that can be tested.

Singh stated that as the Maharashtra government had withdrawn consent for the CBI investigation for crimes registered within Maharashtra, he was forced to knock on the doors of the Apex Court.
