Kyiv: Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his forces are advancing “step by step” into the Russian-occupied southern region of Kherson.
His statement came during a late night address on Saturday after the Russian troops attacked the port city just hours after signing a grain deal.
Russia had captured Kherson early in the war. On Saturday, the UK defence officials reported heavy fighting near the city.
It further said that the Ukrainian advance will put the supply lines of the Russian forces west of the Dnipro “increasingly at risk”. According to BBC, Kyiv’s forces have been targeting river crossings in the region in an effort to stretch Russia’s supply lines.
On Saturday, an artillary strike had hit the Daryivskyi bridge across the Inhulets river, a tributary of the Dnipro. On Tuesday, the Ukrainian forces attacked the Antonivskyi Bridge over the Dnipro itself with US-supplied artillery.
