Protests held for bomb attack at residence of RIMS Director

The protestors denounced a bomb attack on a residential area and they said if the bomb had fallen a few meters away lots of people would have been injured.

Imphal: Sit-in protests were held here on Wednesday at different places over the bomb attack at the residence of RIMS Director Dr. A Santa at Uripok.

Doctors, nurses, paramedical staff of RIMS, and representatives of various organizations staged a sit-in protest at the RIMS complex. A protest was also staged at Uripok near the residence of Dr. A Santa.

The protestors denounced a bomb attack on a residential area and they said if the bomb had fallen a few meters away lots of people would have been injured.

They appealed not to resort to such attacks in residential areas. A protestor said doctors are next to God as they look after the people who need medical attention. Those working in medical professions should not be harassed but should be given assistance and protection by the masses, it was added.

A powerful bomb blasted at the Uripok residence of Dr. Santa on Monday evening. The blast occurred inside the residence of the RIMS Director and when the blast occurred the Director was not at his residence but in his quarter.

No one was injured as the bomb fell in a pond inside the residential campus.

Security was beefed up near the residence of the Director and the impact of the bomb was felt by large numbers of people and the debris from the pond was scattered on the roads and nearby places. It was not yet known who was responsible for the blast.

The blast occurred when the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences Imphal (RIMS) was celebrating its entry into the Institute in the top 50 best medical institutes in the country for the fourth consecutive year.

No other medical institute from the northeast could not figure in the top 50 list.
