African swine fever cases detected in Manipur

Imphal: African Swine Fever (ASF) was detected in pigs in the Pig Breeding Farm, Hiyanglam, Kakching District, a release issued by the State Information department on Saturday.

District Veterinary Office, Thoubal/Kakching has informed the district authority regarding confirmation of positive cases of African Swine Fever and in view of the impending threat of the disease the district administration has issued containment measures to prevent spread of the disease in the area.

Under “The Prevention and Control of Infectious and Contagious Diseases in Animal Act, 2009″ the farm was declared as “Control areas” .

It was ordered that no pig shall be moved from the place where it is kept within the controlled area. Ban on sale of pig, pork, feed and related items were enforced.

Further, the area falling within one kilometer from the epicenter of the disease was declared as “Infected Zone” and areas falling within nine km radius from the epicenter was hereby declared as “Surveillance Zone” for taking up control and containment procedures.
