Itanagar: Amid the violent protests erupted in some parts of the country against the Centre’s “Agnipath” scheme, the BJP-ruled Arunachal Pradesh on Friday announced to give  precedence to “Agniveers” in recruitment in the state police and extend the benefits of credit-linked subsidy schemes.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu said that the state government will prefer the youths recruited in the Armed Forces on completion of their four-year service period in the State Police job. He also stated that those wanting to start their own enterprise will get preference under all credit-linked subsidy schemes of the state government.

Taking to Twitter, Khandu wrote: “#Agnipath ~ I’m glad to announce that #Agniveers of Arunachal Pradesh will get preference in state police job. Those wanting to start their own enterprise for Atmanirbhar Arunachal will get preference under all credit linked subsidy schemes of state Government.”

Meanwhile, the Government raised the upper age limit from 21 years to 23 years for recruitment in the Armed Forces under the Agnipath scheme for this year as no recruitment was done during the last two years.

“Cognizant of the fact that it has not been possible to undertake the recruitment during the last two years, the Government has decided that a one-time waiver shall be granted for the proposed recruitment cycle for 2022,” a Defence Ministry spokesperson said, adding, “Accordingly, the upper age limit for the recruitment process for Agnipath scheme for 2022 is increased to 23 years”.
