Imphal: Manipur’s Wairokpam Punshiba Singh and Makakmayum Hosni Mubarak have cleared the Union Public Service Commision (UPSC) examination 2021, results of which were announced on Tuesday.
They were among the eight candidates in total from North East who cracked the prestigious examinations, out of which two are from Assam, two from Nagaland, one from Meghalaya and one from Arunachal Pradesh.
Punshiba Singh, who hails from Nambol Thounaojam Leikai in Manipur’s Imphal West district, bagged 238 and Mubarak from Yairipok secured 575 ranks.
While two candidates from Assam – Shilpa Khanikar and Debajyoti Barman secured 506 and 639 respectively, Viku L Achumi and Imensennaro Walling from Nagaland secured 567 and 587 respectively.
Ankur Das, a resident of Jail Road, Shillong has bagged the 52nd All India rank, which is the top in the entire northeast. Â Tenzin Chonzom (584) from Arunachal Pradesh made proud the entire northeast.
Shruti Sharma from Delhi has secured all India Rank 1 in the final result declared Monday. Interestingly, all the top three positions have been secured by girls candidates this year.
The UPSC CSE preliminary exam was held on October 10, 2021, and the results of the examination were released on October 29. The main examination was conducted from January 7 to 16, 2022, and the results were declared on March 17, 2022. The Interview was the last round of the examination which began on April 5 and concluded on May 26.
Born to Iboyaima Singh and Premila of Nambol Thounaojam Leikai, Punshiba did his schooling from Class VIII to XII at the Daisy Dales Senior Secondary School, East of Kailash, Delhi and passed his graduation from the Shri Venkateswara College, Delhi University in Maths honours.
This was his second attempt to clear the exams.
Punshiba, 24, who loves reading newspapers, told The North East Affairs that his dream of becoming an IAS officer started since his school days in Manipur. However, he actually started his preparation for the Civil Services during his first year in graduation.
Punshiba also disclosed that he never took any formal coaching for the examinations except a brief period for his optional subject which was Geography.
Patient, self belief, financial and emotional support from the family are the most important factors if one wants to seriously consider preparation for this exam, he added.
Middle of five siblings, Mubarak, 28, was born to MK Kutubuddin and Rahmatun Bibi of Yairipok Ninthounai, Imphal East district of Manipur.
He started his schooling at Antartic English School, Yairipok, Manipur up to Class X. After passing his Class XII from the Amity International School, Saket, Delhi, Mubarak did his graduation from Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering, Mysore, Karnataka.
This was his fifth attempt, in which he cleared the main exam three times and was his first interview.
Speaking to The North East Affairs, Mubarak said he always wanted to be a civil service officer since his school days. Because of the law and order situation, lack of proper academic atmosphere in school, colleges and frequent bandh and strikes in Manipur led him to think to be a part of the policy making process and contribute to the development of the state and nation, he added.
