Imphal: The Liangmei Naga Council (EZ), Eastern Liangmei Chief Chairman Association (ELCCA) and Ahangruak Chief Chairman Association (ACCA) Tuesday rejected a claim by the Sadar Hills Chief Association (SAHILCA) that only Kuki Civil Societies (CSOs) are there in Kangpokpi district.

“Such irrational statement is condemnable and uncalled for. The fact of the matter is that those organisations mentioned by SAHILCA  are exclusively Kukis based CSOs and therefore, the SAHILCA should not try to mislead the general public through media by disrespecting the idigenous people and distorting the history of the land,” said a statement by the three Liangmei bodies.

It further warned that such ignorance and immature statements in public domain can escalate communal flare up in the state if not clarified at the earliest.

The three Liangmei bodies also advised SAHILCA to consult historians, geographers and update themselves so that such illogical statements which has potential to create enmity between the communities would be avoided in future.

While supporting the ‘War on Drug’ launched by the state government, the Liangmei bodies also vowed to continue the fight on drugs in Liangmei inhabited areas.

It also congratulated SAHILCA for announcing to fight against poppy plantations in its areas but it also reminded that the fight to eradicate drugs will not be solved if it’s only on paper.
