Mumbai: India’s power demand touched another high on Friday at 207 GW, as mercury continued to soar higher and higher.
The maximum all India power demand touched 207,111 MW at 14:50 hrs today, an all-time high so far, according to the Ministry of Power. The demand for power is expected to go up significantly as the summer peaks in the months of May and June.
Many states have already resorted to power cuts, especially at a time when the average temperature in India has crossed 45 degrees Celsius.
Union Power Minister RK Singh yesterday came down heavily on some state governments for not taking adequate steps to address the electricity crisis in the country.
The Minister had said that part of the crisis was because of the states’ wrong planning to lift coal.Â
