Guwahati: In a heartwarming gesture, a Manipur minister comes forward to personally take care of the education of a 10-year-old girl from Tamenglong district of the state till her graduation.
The girl, identified as Meiningsinliu Pamei, was spotted on social media attending school by babysitting her sister, as her parents were out for farming.
Later, Thongam Biswajit Singh, who is currently a cabinet minister in the Biren Singh-led BJP government, traced her family and asked them to bring the girl to Imphal.
“As soon as I noticed this news on social media, we traced her family & asked them to bring her to Imphal. Spoke to her family that I will personally take care of her education till she graduates. Proud of her dedication!” he said.
“Her dedication for education is what left me amazed! This 10-year-old girl …attends school babysitting her sister, as her parents were out for farming & studies while keeping her younger sister in her lap,” Singh said in a tweet.
“We have decided to assist her education through a boarding school and promised her parents that I will be looking after all her expenses till she graduates,” Power, Forest, Environment Minister said.
