Tripura: Three children die during Holi in BSF camp

The incident brought about a shadow of gloom over the joyous celebration of Holi in the battalion and the civilians residing in the vicinity.

Ambassa (Tripura): Three children including two minors living with their parents in the camp of 138 battalion BSF at Jawharnagar under Dhalai district were brought dead to hospital here on Friday.

The deceased were identified as Ashman Kumar (13), Prabal Tiwari (12) and Ajit Jagtap (16) whose fathers have are currently serving in the BSF battalion, sources said.

The incident brought about a shadow of gloom over the joyous celebration of Holi in the battalion and the civilians residing in the vicinity. However, the cause of death has not yet been ascertained, as BSF officials of the camp and the victim families are tight-lipped about the incedent.

According to report, the incident occurred inside the camp around 11 am but they were brought dead to the hospital after three hours and the matter was not reported to police until the hospital authorities informed.

Police sources said that they were not aware of the incident, just got a call from hospital about the dead bodies and added, “Investigation has been started but no details.”

A primary report claimed three children had gone to a nearby stream to bathe and they drowned there. They were rescued in critical condition and shifted to hospital where they were declared dead. It is suspected that the children might have consumed something poisonous or reactive substances during the celebration of Holi.
