Manipur second phase records 84.20 percent polling

The elections continued till late into the evening as all those who entered the polling stations up to 4 pm were allowed to exercise their franchise.

Imphal: Manipur recorded a heavy voter turnout of 84.20 percent in the second phase of the State Assembly polls covering 22 constituencies on Saturday, election officials said while releasing the final figures on Sunday.

The elections continued till late into the evening as all those who entered the polling stations up to 4 pm were allowed to exercise their franchise.

Senapati district recorded the highest turnout with 86.55 percent while the figure was the lowest in Jiribam at 77.64 percent, the officials said.

Thoubal district registered 85.47 percent polling, Chandel 83.10, Tamenglong 82.43 and Ukhrul 81.90 percent respectively.

The first phase polls involving 38 of the state’s 60 Assembly constituencies witnessed 88.63 percent polling. The votes will be counted on March 10.
