Ukraine downs Russian Su-34, detains pilot

It also claimed that Russian forces have lost 269 tanks, 105 artillery systems, 39 fighter aircraft, 40 helicopters, 409 automotive equipment units and 3 Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in the war so far.

Kyiv/New Delhi: The Ukrainian armed forces claimed they shot down a Russian Su-34 fighter aircraft and detained the pilot on Saturday.

The Ukraine defence ministry shared the video of the twin engine medium bomber falling down in Zabarivska region, apparently after being hit by the Ukrainian air defence forces.

Later, posting the picture of the injured pilot, the Ukrainian authorities informed that he has been detained. “The pilot of a downed Russian SU-34 plane has just been detained in Chernihiv. The co-pilot died. An enemy drone was also shot down today,” Department of Civil Defense of Chernihiv Regional State Administration posted the information online.

Soon after the incident, the Regional Military Administration in the region alerted the residents and requested them to help in locating the pilot.

“ATTENTION ! Residents of Zabarivska Street and those nearby. The pilot of a downed Russian plane landed in your area. The military is looking for him. PLEASE help in the search, if possible – to identify and detain. Be careful – he can be armed,” the RSA posted on Telegram.

The authorities in the region kept asking the residents to take shelter cautioning them for more possible air attacks by Russian forces in the region. Meanwhile, the defence intelligence agency of Ukraine has claimed that Russia has lost more than 10,000 personnel in the war so far.
