Imphal: The Shangshak Battalion of Assam Rifles seized timber worth Rs 2.4 cr in Manipur’s Kamjong district close to the border with Myanmar, an Assam Rifles Official said on Sunday.

The official said the troops foiled the attempts at cross-border smuggling in Kasang Khullen village.

Based on specific input, Assam Rifles troopers intercepted three vehicles carrying illegal timber logs being ferried from across the Indo-Myanmar Border.

The recovered timber logs were assessed to be worth Rs 2.4 Crores. The recovered items along with vehicles and drivers were handed over to the Forest department for further legal action.
