Imphal: After two days, all the print and electronic media in Manipur will resume their normal duties from Sunday.

The media houses under the aegis of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) and Editors Guild of Manipur (EGM) had been on a 48-hour cease work strike starting Friday at 6 am against the threat of militants.

Announcing this, a representative of the AMWJU said since there is no response from any militant group regarding the threat and intimidation against the local vernacular daily ‘Poknapham’, all the media houses will resume their duties from Sunday.

On February 13, an unidentified woman, suspected of belonging to a militant outfit, hurled a Chinese hand grenade at the front office of Poknapham and its sister publication ‘People’s Chronicles’ and demanded the media house to cease operations for six months.

Strongly denouncing the threat and intimidation by the militant group, journalist bodies in Manipur Thursday urged the outlawed organization to clarify their stand and reasons within 48 hours starting from 6 am Friday.

If the militant group could not provide specific reasons within this period, the journalist bodies would not accept any accusation and allegation against the newspaper, said a statement by the All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) on Thursday.

Since Friday, hundreds of journalists from various media organisations across Manipur staged a sit-in protest at the Manipur Press Club here, demanding clarification of the threat to the media house within the next 48 hours.
