Agartala: A day after villagers attacked a police officer in Khowai district during a raid to arrest a listed NLFT militant, Director General of Tripura Police V S Yadav hinted a political connection with the outfit and assured strict action against those involved in such activities.

Yadav told media that activists of a political party had snatched the NLFT militant from Champahaoar police station of Khowai on February 23 evening.

He said in the last two days as many as five NLFT militants were arrested and they have been brought under investigation.

The DGP said that NLFT’s activities have increased in some locations of Khowai and Dhalai districts in the past few months.

However, police were also able to foil several attempts of NLFT militants to trigger violence but the incidence of freeing the terrorists from police by political party supporters is not a good sign.

“We are investigating the link of political parties with militant outfits and if it is established, police will take appropriate action against each of them whoever it may be. We shall not tolerate any attempt to break peace and disturb development in the state,” Yadav pointed out.

Reportedly, NLFT is recruiting members and collecting money to overcome its financial crisis, he observed, adding that police have activated all ground intelligence resources to defuse the activities.

The arrested NLFT members have confessed that the outfit is in regular touch with the NLFT leaders in Bangladesh to carry out subversive activities including recruitment, Yadav stated.

He also urged the political parties to stay away from any such activities and to help the police to maintain peace in public life.
