Nandigram: West Bengal ruling Trinamool Congress and main Opposition BJP on Wednesday observed the Nandigram Diwas separately to pay tributes to 14 people, killed in police firing while protesting against the forceful land acquisition by the then Left Front government for SEZ (Special Economic Zone) in 2007.
Nandigram MLA and West Bengal Legislative Assembly Opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari in a tweet said, ” Nandigram is not the name of a place, but a history which can never be forgotten. Nandigram is land for struggle, land for shelter, land for protection, land for faith. “
” Nandigram fought against the evils in the past and in future too it would stand for the good omen, ” Adhikari, who is expected to address a gathering of mourners at the Shahid Stambh later today to mark the 14th year of the Nandigram massacre, said.
Earlier this morning, TMC leaders, including Kunal Ghosh, Tapas Roy and Dola Sen placed a wreath at the footstep of the Stambh at Kar Pally in Gakulnagar.
