Agartala: Two BJP workers were injured seriously in an attack last evening at Belonia of South Tripura allegedly by party’s student wing activists of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) apparently in retaliation of some previous enmity.
However, despite police complaints, nobody has been arrested so far. The injured persons have been shifted to a local hospital and doctors stated them out of danger.
The miscreants attacked them with iron rods and bamboo sticks at Belonia College Chowmuhani market, police said.
According to the report, the victims Debabrata Debnath and Aritra Dey along with some local people had obstructed ABVP leaders Hridoy Majumder and Rana Majumder from creating nuisance in the area on the day of Diwali while intoxicated. After an altercation, Hridoy and Rana were allegedly assaulted by locals including the victims.
In retaliation, ABVP activists led by Hridoy and Rana beat up Debabrata and Aritra on the street. The local shopkeepers have rescued them and shifted them to hospitals in critical condition. The incident triggered a serious reaction in the area and police mobilised extra forces to cease the tension.
