Imphal: Chief Minister N. Biren Singh took part in the funeral service cum condolence programme of the former president of Zeliangrong Baudi (AMN) Athuan Abonmai and laid the foundation stone for a memorial park of the late leader at Langol Tarung in Imphal West District Thursday.

Speaking at the condolence programme, N. Biren Singh said that he and the State Government would never compromise on dastardly acts and brutal killings of innocent people until the perpetrators are brought to justice.

He stated that Abonmai’s murder had given extreme pain and deep anguish to all the people of Manipur. Abonmai was a courageous leader, who believed in the unity and integrity of Manipur and India, he said.

The Chief Minister lamented that whatever objective the killers have and whichever group they belong to, they would never achieve their goal because the Almighty would never listen to those who tyrannize people and take the lives of fellow humans.

Stating that actions guided by such satanic thoughts would lead to nowhere, N. Biren Singh said that Abonmai’s death would not go in vain but further strengthen the sense of integrity among people. During his last visit to the National Capital, the Chief Minister said, he immediately apprised Home Minister Shri Amit Shah about the gruesome incident, and reminded him about Abonmai by showing the photograph of Abonmai presenting a shawl to the Home Minister. Shri Amit Shah immediately talked to the Union Home Secretary to complete procedures for taking over the case by NIA, he stated.

Maintaining that it was one of the fastest actions the Central Government had ever taken regarding handing over a case to NIA, N. Biren Singh pointed out that the Central Government is fully behind the State Government and Abonmai’s family. He also expressed confidence that the Centre would never spare the perpetrators. No matter the case has been handed over to the investigation agency, the State Police would also continue doing the needful to provide vital clues and inputs to NIA to bring the case to a logical conclusion.

Forest and Environment Minister Awangbow Newmai, Education Minister S. Rajen, MP Maharaja Leishemba Sanajaoba, leaders of different civil society organisations and a large number of people also took part in the funeral service cum condolence programme.
