Chandigarh: Launching a direct attack against Captain Amarinder Singh, Congress leader Harish Rawat on Friday said the former Punjab chief minister should reconsider his stand and should not become a tool for the BJP.
Rawat said Congress has always respected Singh, and said, “The kind of statements that have come over last few days, it seems they are under some kind of pressure. He is being used by the party in power as a mask”.
“It is a question of saving the Indian democracy, at a time like this we expected Amarinder Singh would stand with Sonia Gandhi and protect democratic values,” he said.
“I’ll add that Amarinder Singh should reconsider whatever he has said so far. He should not help anti-Punjab, and anti-farmer BJP,” he said.
Rawat’s comments came a day after Singh announced he was not joining the BJP, but would also not stay in the Congress either . Singh, who might float his own party, has so far kept silent about his future plans.
He had resigned as the chief minister of Punjab on September 18, saying he felt humiliated.
