New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the “intolerable pain” of losing people to Covid will never end.
Addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the occasion of 75th Independence Day, the Prime Minister said, “Covid is a big challenge. We have fought with patience. We had many challenges but in every field, we worked with speed. It is due to our entrepreneurs that India does not have to be dependent on anyone for the vaccine.”
India is running the world’s largest vaccination program for Covid. He also mentioned free food grains being given to 80 crore people.
“Lesser people got infected in India compared to other countries. We are also more populous than other countries… We could save people but there is nothing to get satisfied about,” Modi said.
“If we say there was no challenge it will be restrictive to our own growth. We have less capabilities compared to prosperous nations,” the Prime Minister said.
“Many people could not be saved, many children became orphan. This intolerable pain is always going to be there,” he said.
