Manipur Police crack whip on COVID curfew violators; 107 people fined

Police also imposed a fine of about Rs 32,900 on those people

Imphal: Intensifying its action against COVID curfew violators, police imposed a fine of about Rs 32,900 on 107 people during the last 12 hours for violating the lockdown and other guidelines imposed by the administration to curtail the spread of the virus.

Failing to wear a face mask in public places, failure to main social distancing in public places, spitting in public places are some of the violations that they had committed, said a statement by E Priyokumar Singh, Inspector General of Police (Ops), Nodal Officer (Covid-19) for Manipur Police.

They were later released.

The Police department further warned that those who violate the guidelines and restrictions shall be dealt with strong legal action under the National Disaster Management Act, 2005 and other appropriate laws.

Slew of measures, including restrictions under section 144 CrPC, have been put into place to contain the spread of Covid-19 for nearly one month in the state.
