Ulan Bator: Seven people died in a fire accident that occurred in a building early Thursday morning in Mongolia’s capital, the country’s National Emergency Management Agency said.

The fire broke out at around 3:50 a.m. local time (1950 GMT Wednesday) in Songinokhairkhan district of Ulan Bator, the emergency agency said.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway, it added.

As the cold season comes, the number of home fires has been increasing, because the households in ger districts light up fires to keep warm, the agency said.

More than half of the capital’s population live in the city’s ger districts, with no running water, central heating or sewerage systems.
