Amravati/Nagpur: Five persons have been arrested in connection with the murder of chemist Umesh Prahladrao Kolhe, who was killed in Maharashtra’s Amravati apparently after he expressed support to former BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma, a police official said on Saturday.
Kolhe was killed possibly over a WhatsApp message supporting Nupur Sharma, the officer told UNI.
“It is suspected that Kolhe sent a pro-Nupur Sharma post on WhatsApp groups and one of the groups had members who may have led the fatal attack on him,” the official said.
The incident took place on June 21 when Kolhe was on his way back home when he was stabbed to death in front of his son.
The five persons arrested for the crime were Muddsir Ahemad (22), Shahrukh Pathan (25), Abdul Thoufique (24), Shoaib Khan (22), and Atib Rashid (22), all residents of Amravati and daily wage workers.
A search is on to trace the prime accused, Irfan Khan (32), the official added.
