Agartala: Four extremists of banned outfit NLFT (BM) surrendered to Tripura police on Friday along with two of its collaborators and arms, ammunition, and other incriminating documents, police said.
The surrendered were identified as Umesh Kalai (42) of Chinaibari in Ampi of Gomati, Fanijoy Reang (39) of Rajdhar in Dhalai, Victor Jamatia (47) of Killa, and Uttam Kishore Jamatia (42) of Killa in Gomati. They entered Tripura from Bangladesh through the Ganganagar border of the Dhalai district intending to carry out kidnapping and extortion about ten days ago.
A police release said they moved in the jungle of Ganganagar, Mungiakami, Ampi, and Killa police station areas but based on intelligence input security forces including CRPF and BSF carried out special operations across Baramura, Atharamura, and Kalajhari hill ranges.
As a result, the group faced hardships to move and even survive in the deep jungle of Baramura. Succumbed to the pressure of security forces they surrendered before police in the Jampuijala area of Sepahijala district on Friday morning along with their overground collaborators Surjya Kishore Jamatia (60) of Birganj and Brajendra Reang (60) of Teliamura, police claimed.
During the surrender, they deposited an AK-56 Rifle with two Magazines and 60 rounds, an M-20 Pistol with a magazine and five rounds, one .38 Pistol with a magazine and 15 rounds, a 50 pages extortion Notice Book of NLFT, and a money receipt. They admitted that NLFT (BM) group has been facing financial crisis and hardship for their survival, which had forced them to relaunch their activities.
