Chennai:Four people, including three members of family, were killed, and four others sustained serous burns, in a cracker explosion at a house at Mohanur in Namakkal district of Tamil Nadu on Saturday.
Police sources said the owner of the house, runs a licensed cracker shop attached to his residence and has stored crackers in it when it exploded early this morning.
A gas cylinder in the house also exploded in the house and the fire spread to nearby houses and huts. The impact was such that eight houses including four huts were completely gutted in the fire.
In the explosion, the house owner Thillai Kumar (35), his wife Priya (30), his mother Selvi (55) and an elderly neighbour K.Periyakka (75) were charred to death on the spot.
Four neighbours, who sustained serious burns, were admitted to the Namakkal Government hospital. They were identified as S.Ambrish, BJP functionary D.Karthikeyan, K.Senthil Kumar and C.Palaniammal.
