Jalpaiguri: As many as 30 companies in Central Paramilitary forces to be deployed for the Dhupguri assembly by-election, slated to be held on September 5, official sources said on Wednesday.
Election office sources said that half of the total deployment, 15 Companies have already deployed, and the rest will arrive shortly before the polls on Wednesday.
The seat fell vacant last month when the sitting BJP MLA, Bishnupada Roy, died of a heart attack at the SSKM hospital after falling sick while attending the assembly session.
TMC named Nirmal Chandra Roy as the Dhupguri bypoll candidate in Jalpaiguri district.
Ishwar Chandra Roy and Tapasi Roy, the CPM and BJP candidates, respectively.
The Congress is supporting the CPI (M)-led Left Front nominee.
