3 NLFT cadres arrested with arms from a Bru settlement in N Tripura

Police confiscated a Chinese Pistol, live ammunition, NLFT notices, subscription notices, Rs 3360 in Indian currency, and 6795 Taka Bangladeshi currency along with some incriminating documents from their possession in Khasnampara Bru settlement, which shares a border with Assam and Mizoram.

Agartala: A day after arresting two top cadres of banned militant outfit National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), Tripura police on Saturday wee hours three more self-styled commands of the group from a camp of displaced Brus of Mizoram in North Tripura.

Police confiscated a Chinese Pistol, live ammunition, NLFT notices, subscription notices, Rs 3360 in Indian currency, and 6795 Taka Bangladeshi currency along with some incriminating documents from their possession in Khasnampara Bru settlement, which shares a border with Assam and Mizoram.

Based on an intelligence input, a joint team of police and Tripura State Rifles (TSR) conducted a raid in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in the arrest of two active NLFT cadres, identified as Ganaram Reang, a self-styled Major and Rai Bahadur Reang.

Both are the residents of Anadabazaar of North Tripura had joined NLFT (PD) in July this year and they had undergone training in a hideout of Bangladesh. Crossing over to India from a hideout at Jupui of Bangladesh, they took shelter in Bru camp.

Later, police arrested another man identified as Rai Tainfgha Reang from Khasnampara locality for assisting the NLFT members, police said, adding that investigation has been going on about NLFT’s link among displaced Brus.

Meanwhile, a local court sent two other top cadres – the self-styled former army chief of NLFT Sachin Debbarma and former Secretary General of NLFT Utpal Debbarma to 14 days judicial custody who were arrested from Simna of West Tripura on Thursday night as soon as they entered into Tripura from Bangladesh.
