Agartala:At least 13 people injured and shifted to hospital, six motor bikes were destroyed and two booth offices of opposition CPI(M) were vandalized on Saturday evening allegedly by ruling BJP cadres in two locations of Khowai and Unakoti districts.
A BJP leader happened to be the president of it’s youth wing in Majlishpur constituency of West Tripura Shivayn Das was arrested on Saturday night on the charge of carrying out attack on a CPI(M) rally at Sachindracolony. He was accused of preventing CPI(M) and Congress workers from attending the election rally and assaulting them.
Police said two separate cases were registered in connection with the incident and investigation has been launched but nobody is arrested yet. An extra deployment has been made in Majlishpur, Khowai and Chandipur constituencies to cease tension.
Despite stepping up security by ECI to maintain conducive environment for peaceful elections, due to inaction of local police, BJP cadres have continued violence and attacks on the opposition supporters in Belonia, Santirbazar, Jirania, Dhanpur, Bishalgarh, Khowai and Kailashahar, alleged CPI(M) Secretary Jitendra Choudhury on Sunday.
He alleged, CPI(M) booth office at Sonatola of Khowai was attacked around 8.15 PM by a group of BJP miscreants, and set it on fire. The CPI(M) and Congress combined built up resistance. At least six people from both parties were injured badly and shifted to Khowai hospital and two of them were referred to Agartala Govt Medical College in critical condition.
Choudhury further alleged that CPI(M) and Congress supporters in Office Tilla, Durganagar and Lalcherra area of Khowai have been facing threat by BJP miscreants for two days to leave the party and party’s campaign materials have been burnt.
Congress president Birjit Sinha alleged, at least seven CPI(M) workers were injured as BJP goons attacked them in the booth office at Jagannathpur tea garden area under Chandipur constituency of Kailashahar on Saturday night. The police present there were inactive rather, pushing out the opposition supporters from the area and BJP goons vandalised the office in front of security forces, he stated.
“We are repeatedly complaining about the partisan role of police to Returning Officer and CEO but no action is being done yet. A few police men in Kailashahar, Kamalpur, Khowai, Teliamura, Jirania, Suryamaninagar, Bishalgarh, Sonamura and Belonia are openly working for BJP and sheltering criminals when ECI is calling zero poll violence – we are doubtful about peaceful election in Tripura,” Sinha added.
