12 soldiers, 4 army auxiliaries killed in Burkina Faso attack

Security in Burkina Faso has worsened since 2015, with terrorist attacks killing more than 1,000 people and displacing over 1 million others in the West African nation.

Ouagadougou: Twelve soldiers and 4 civilian army volunteers were killed Friday in an attack on a military detachment in northern Burkina Faso, said the army in a statement.

A complex attack targeted the Namissiguima military detachment (Sanmatenga Province, Centre-Nord region) around 5 am.

The provisional toll shows 12 soldiers and 4 army volunteers were killed, as well as 21 soldiers wounded, said the statement. Reinforcements have been deployed to secure the area.
