12 Congress legislators join Trinamool Congress

Shillong: Former Congress Chief Minister of Meghalaya Mukul Sangma, along with 11 other Congress MLAs, on Wednesday joined the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC).

Congress is the principal opposition party in this hill state, with 18 MLAs in the 60- member Assembly.

Following this move, AITC is now the principal opposition party in Meghalaya.

The leaders who switched parties included former chief minister Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Mukul Sangma, who was reportedly unhappy with the Congress’ top leadership.

Meghalaya is going to the polls in 2023.
