With 1,327 fresh infections, Manipur records highest ever Covid-19 cases, 15 more deaths

Imphal: With 1,327 fresh infections, Manipur on Wednesday recorded highest ever coronavirus diseases (Covid-19) cases, breaking its own previous daily spikes, pushing the cumulative tally to 88,050 cases, officials said.

This is the highest ever cases within a day the state has seen from the start of the pandemic.

In the last 24 hours leading up to 5 pm, the deaths also shot up after 15 fatalities were recorded. A total of 1,424 people have succumbed to the infection so far, according to the health bulletin.

Altogether 6,852 persons were tested on Wednesday. The positivity rate increased to 19.4 per cent from 15.5 per cent recorded a day before.  

The 15 persons who passed away included six from Bishnupur, three from Imphal West, two each from Imphal East and Thoubal and one each from Chandel and Churachandpur.

During the same period, 1032 persons recovered and were discharged, as per an official release from the Covid-19 common Control Room.

At least 400 of the 1,326 persons from the general population who tested positive belonged to Imphal West, 352 to Imphal East, 124 to Thoubal, 106 to Kakching, 94 to Churachandpur, 77 to Bishnupur, 38 to Chandel, 35 to Tamenglong, 27 to Noney, 22 to Kangpokpi, 17 to Jiribam, 12 to Kamjong, nine to Ukhrul, and two each to Pherzawl and Tengnoupal.

Meanwhile, a total of 1032 persons who were discharged include 407 from home isolation, 350 from CHICs, 241 from CCCs, 18 from RIMS and 16 from JNIMS. The recovery rate in the state stands at 86.63 per cent. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 76,279(General Population – 72,392, Central Security Personnel – 3,887). The number of active cases is 10,347(General Population – 10,285 Personnel – 62).

In all, 24,795 persons were vaccinated on July 20, 2021. The cumulative number of vaccination is 10,90,922 (1st dose 9,65,342, 2nd dose 1,25,580).
