Webinar on ‘Cyber Crime – Harassment of  Women in Digital Space’ held

Imphal: Manipur Upliftment Centre organised a webinar on “Cyber Crime – Harassment of Women in Digital Space’  here on Saturday. The programme was conducted with the sponsorship of the National Commission for Women. 

The objectives of the webinar were to create a better understanding of cybercrime among the masses for enabling them to internalise the magnitude of increasing crime against women in cyberspace. 

It also aimed to promote awareness of existing gaps and challenges in the social system pertaining to crime against women. 

Renowned personalities and experts including Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Dr Rubita Irengbam, Dr Koiremba Ningthoujam, Asst Prof Shreema Ningombam, Dr Nunglekpam Premi Devi and Clinical Psychologist Paonam Thoibi delivered on various topics related to cybercrime and crime against women. 

Considering the importance of the subject in this digital era some of the key speakers had expressed their desire to organise such webinar frequently to cover more and more people. 

A non-profit social organisation, Manipur Upliftment Centre has been working for the past 20 years to grow and expand its activities in the field of education, healthcare, livelihood training, said Leikoiba Heigrujam, chief functionary of the Centre.

Some of the present activities are taken up with the sponsorship of certain funding agencies including private individuals while certain programmes are being carried out with the organisation’s own resources. In any weather, MUC never stops working, Leikoiba added.
