Imphal: Oinam Lukhoi will be the BJP candidate for Wangoi while Paonam Brojen will contest the Wangjing Tentha constituency on the BJP symbol in the coming by election to the Manipur State Assembly which will be held on November 7, 2020.
Their candidature was decided by the BJP Central Election Committee which met under the Chairmanship of BJP National President J P Nadda. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari among others are member of this committee.
The committee also announced Ngamthang Haokip and Ginsuanhau as the BJP faces for Saitu and Singhat Assembly constituencies respectively.
The by-elections will be held for 16 seats – one in Chhattisgarh, seven in Gujarat, two in Jharkhand, four in Manipur, and two in Odisha.
Interestingly, the Election Committee of BJP hasn’t yet announced the candidature for Lilong Assembly seat, which will be held on the same of November 7.
The last date for filing nomination papers is October 20 and scrutiny of nominations will be held the next day.
Unlike previous elections, ballot paper option will be given to voters aged 80 years or above and to differently-abled persons, the CEO Manipur said earlier.
While the state will follow general guidelines issued by the ECI for the poll, a separate management plan will be put in place based on the local requirements, said the CEO.
