Guwahati: Senior Assam Police officer Kumar Sanjit Krishna has been arrested by Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday evening in connection with the sub-inspector (SI) exam paper leak case, officials said here on Friday.
“Kumar Sanjit Krishna, Superintendent of Police (SP), FRRO, Barpeta, has been arrested by CID today evening in connection with the sub-inspector recruitment test’s question paper leak case. He would be produced before the court on Friday,” Assam police said in a press statement.
Krishna’s name surfaced after one of the accused Rubul Hazarika named him as the official who had given him access to the question papers against payment of the hefty sum, the news agency report said.
Officials said it was in Karimganj that the question paper was first leaked and both Sanjit Krishna and Ex-Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) PK Dutta were key collaborators in the leak.
Krishna is the highest-ranked serving officer of the Assam government arrested so far in the scam that has rocked the state, giving the much-needed ammunition to the opposition just six months before the Assembly polls.
Interestingly, Krishna is the brother of chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna.
The SP, who is a senior officer of the Assam Police Services, was transferred to Barpeta district as the superintendent of police of the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) on October 11, 2020, which was a Sunday raising questions over the investigation.
His official residence at Karimganj was searched on Sunday and Tuesday, while his personal house was searched by the CID on Wednesday.
Assam Chief Secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna had said in a Facebook post on Tuesday that if his brother has done something wrong then “law will take its own course on the basis of evidence”. With agency inputs
